This was my first street art event that I participated in. It was a competition where event staff and the public could vote on a winner, and the votes were counted at the end of the event. This was done at the Tempe Festival of the Arts. I won the poster contest for the Festival, and it was all about Arizona. So, the theme for the chalk art was “Arizona”.
I always wanted to try the optical illusion, so I did a star broken out of the pavement and then had the Grand Canyon, Route 66, and cactus, most things that people associate AZ with.
I won first place at this competition.
This was done at the Tempe Festival of the Arts in Tempe, AZ. I forget what the theme was for this event. I was interested in creating vintage racing car art at that time, so I had a picture from Pinterest that I liked, and it was something I could paint within the allotted time.
I won first place at this competition.
This was done at the Tempe Festival of the Arts. I have always loved robot art and had some sketches. I like to paint things that the crowd will connect with (I’ve got to get those votes), so I knew the kids would connect with the robot. It worked; I got the majority of the public votes.
I won first place at this competition.
This was done at the Tempe Festival of the Arts. The theme for this event was “better together”. Batman and Superman connect with kids, so I chose the two most common and popular characters.
I won first place at this competition.
The lady who runs the Prescott Chalk festival in Prescott, AZ saw me doing the Arizona-themed chalk art in Tempe and invited me to participate in the Prescott event. I love whales, so I did the grey whale first, then the area looked empty and I had time left over so I added the baby whale and made the one fin outstretched, and at the right camera angle, the fin looked like it came right out to the viewer.
I won first place at that event.
